English for Communication : Advanced
Course Description
This course will focus on Advanced level of English skills. The learners can distinguish between facts and opinions and main ideas and supporting details in long and complex listening and reading texts containing abstract ideas within their field. The learners can communicate in written and spoken forms with some degree of complexity as well as describing and comparing viewpoints and arguments around an issue in their field.
Learning Objectives
LO1 : Can recognize the speaker’s point of view and distinguish between main ideas and supporting details in standard lectures on familiar topics
LO2 : Can give clear, systematically developed descriptions and presentations, with appropriate highlighting of significant points, and relevant supporting detail.
LO3 : Can read with a large degree of independence, adapting style and speed of reading and using appropriate reference sources selectively. Understanding idiomatic meaning of complex texts, and distinguishing fact from opinions.
LO4 : Can write clear, detailed texts on a variety of subjects related to his/her field of interest, synthesizing and evaluating information and arguments from a number of sources.
